The DJI RS 5 is a lightweight professional 3-axis camera gimbal designed for filmmakers, content creators, vloggers, commercial videographers, and photographers who need smooth, controlled camera movement in a portable setup. With a tested payload of up to 3kg (6.6lbs), the RS 5 can accommodate a wide range of compatible mirrorless camera and lens combinations while maintaining reliable stabilization. The gimbal weighs approximately 1.46kg with its standard configuration, making it suitable for both studio production and mobile shooting.

The RS 5 features DJI's 5th-generation stabilization algorithm, designed to provide smoother and more responsive stabilization during handheld shooting. It also incorporates Teflon-enhanced balancing and fine-tuning knobs on each axis arm, allowing users to make precise adjustments when balancing their camera. This is particularly useful when working with heavier or more demanding camera and lens combinations.

One of the key features of the RS 5 is its support for enhanced intelligent tracking and composition. When equipped with the RS Enhanced Intelligent Tracking Module, users can select and track a person, vehicle, pet, or other supported subject directly from the gimbal's touchscreen. The module supports a tracking distance of approximately 0.5 to 10 meters and can be controlled using the gimbal trigger, gestures, or touchscreen. This makes the RS 5 especially useful for solo creators who need to keep a moving subject accurately framed without a dedicated camera operator.

The gimbal features a 1.8-inch full-color OLED touchscreen, providing a clear interface for accessing settings and controlling key functions. It also supports 3rd-generation native vertical shooting, allowing creators to transition between horizontal and vertical shooting configurations efficiently. This makes the RS 5 well suited to social-media content, reels, short-form video, advertising, vlogging, and other portrait-oriented productions.

The RS 5 also introduces a Z-Axis Indicator, which provides visual feedback to help users refine their walking technique for steadier footage. For creative shooting angles, the compatible Electronic Briefcase Handle provides single-handed control with an integrated joystick and buttons for gimbal and camera operation. This accessory is particularly useful for low-angle, underslung, and unconventional camera movements.

The gimbal uses the DJI RS BG33 battery grip, which provides approximately 14 hours of standby time under DJI's specified stationary test conditions. The battery can be fully charged in approximately one hour using a compatible 65W PD charger. Because the stated runtime is measured with the gimbal balanced and stationary, actual operating time can be shorter during active shooting and when powering connected accessories.

For camera movement, the RS 5 offers 360° continuous pan rotation, while the roll axis provides a mechanical range of -95° to +240° and the tilt axis ranges from -112° to +214°. All three axes support a maximum controlled rotation speed of 360°/s. The gimbal also uses 2nd-generation automated axis locks, which automatically lock the axes when the gimbal is powered off or enters sleep mode and unlock them when powered on, helping simplify storage, transportation, and setup.

Connectivity includes Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C charging, USB-C camera control, a multifunctional USB-C port, RSA/NATO accessory ports, a cold shoe, and a 1/4"-20 mounting hole. The RS 5 supports compatible camera control features including external focus motor control, Bluetooth zoom control, Bluetooth shutter control, and wired shutter functions, depending on the connected camera and accessories.

The DJI RS 5 standard package includes the gimbal, BG33 battery grip, quick-open tripod, lens-fastening support, RS 5 upper and lower quick-release plates, screw kit, and a 30cm USB-C multi-camera control cable. Unlike the RS 5 Combo, the standard package does not include the Electronic Briefcase Handle or RS Enhanced Intelligent Tracking Module, so customers who require these features should select the appropriate accessory or bundle.
